Corey D. Layton, Jr. joined Lopez Law Group as an Associate Attorney in the Spring of 2026 after earning his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law Houston in the Fall of 2025 and passing the February 2026 Bar Exam. Prior to joining the firm, Corey clerked at the newly created Texas Business Court, where he gained valuable experience regarding complex corporate litigation. Additionally, he clerked at a boutique Houston commercial and business litigation firm, where he developed and honed his litigation skills.

During his time at South Texas College of Law, Corey served as the Vice President of the Black Law Students Association for the 2023–2024 academic year and as the organization's Social Media Chair for the 2024–2025 academic year. In addition to his leadership on the BLSA board, Corey distinguished himself academically as a recipient of the Dean's Merit Scholarship Award and the Hyman L. Slohm Memorial Scholarship Award, and he earned the CALI Award in Corporations. He was also an active member of the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society, the Cougar Law Society, the Business Law Society, and the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Society.

Before law school, Corey earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Houston in 2020, where he was highly involved in campus life. He served as Vice President of the Eta Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for the 2019–2020 school year and was an active member of the university’s collegiate NAACP chapter.

Outside of work, Corey enjoys spending time with his high school sweetheart and his dog, Ghost. He also loves traveling, watching movies, and cheering on the Seattle Seahawks and Orlando Magic.
